Buy D.O. Wines Terra Alta
The Terra Alta Designation of Origin is located in the province of Tarragona, it was established in 1972, with a vineyard area of 1,700 hectares and about 50 wineries integrating it with more than 1,700 winegrowers. In this area, vineyard production is used on its natural terraces, with a Mediterranean climate but with great continental influence. We can find varieties of soils from the presence of pebbles to slate and shale in its most mountainous areas.
The preferred and authorized white varieties in this D.O. They are Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo, Parellada, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, Moscatel de Alejandría, Chenin Blanc, Pedro Ximenez and Chardonnay.
The preferred and authorized red varieties in this D.O are Samsó (also known as Mazuela or Cariñena), Cab. Sauvignon, Red Grenache, Peluda Grenache, Tempranillo, Cab. Franc, Merlot, Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah.
The wines of this D.O. have been rather recognized for the production of white wines with the Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo varieties, the first powerful and with great personality, and the second lighter, acidic and fresh, it is also worth highlighting the presence of reds with the recommended varieties such as Garnacha and Samsó (cariñena, mazuela...) giving tannic wines, with good degree and personality, rancio wines and mistelas also deserve to be mentioned, especially the sweet reds with Garnacha, a divine treasure of the area.
