The Denomination of Origin Tacoronte-Acentejo is based in the province of Tenerife and was established in 1992, with about 1,200 hectares of vineyards and about 100 wineries that comprise them. with 1,800 winegrowers. The vineyards of this designation of origin are located on the northern slope of the Cordillera Dorsal of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). It receives all the humidity from the Atlantic thanks to the trade winds. Most of the vineyard is between 300 and 750 meters of altitude. Here the vine is grown on terraces or terraces. The vine is formed in the way that is traditional in this region, in harrows, this is forming very separate lines or in shapes supported on supports called forks. They occupy the entire surface of the plot until the harvest. Afterwards, they are collected on the line and the plot of other products is cultivated, including potatoes.

The preferred and authorized white varieties in this D.O. They are Gual, Malvasía aromatica, Malvasía volcanica, Bermejuela, Albillo, Doradilla, Forastera Blanca, Moscatel Al, Sabro, Verdello, Vijariego blanco, Breval, Listán blanco de Canarias, Bastardo Blanco, Burrablanca, P. Ximenez, Torrontés.

The preferred and authorized red varieties in this D.O are Castellana Negra, Listan negro, Negramoll, Malvasía rosada, Tintilla, Bastardo negro, Cab. Sauvignon, Merlot, Black Moscatel, Listan Prieto, Pinot Noir, Ruby, Cabernet, Syrah, Tempranillo, Black Vijariego.

The wines of this D.O. They are best known for red wines, but white and rosé are also produced. The wines of Tacoronte - Acentejo have always enjoyed a well-deserved regional prestige and, in recent times, thanks to the technological and organizational development of the area, they have acquired national and international projection. These wines are fundamentally young reds, very well put together in the mouth and with a very personal aromatic, fruity character. In much smaller proportions, young, very modern whites and rosés are also produced. They rely heavily on regional varieties, which is worth supporting.

The minimum percentages of alcoholic volume acquired in their wines are the following: White 10%, Rosé 10.5%, Red 12%, Sweet 11.5%, Liqueur 15%, Sparkling 10%, Overripe grape wine 12 %, Naturally sweet 13%.
