The Ribera del Guadiana Designation of Origin is based in the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz and was created in 1999, it has an area of 28,200 hectares, about 55 wineries and 2,950 winegrowers. It has the subzones of Cañamero and Montánchez in Cáceres; Ribera Alta, Ribera Baja, Tierra de Barros and Matanegra in Badajoz. We have different altitude levels throughout the subzones from 250-1000 meters, soils of varied composition and a generally continental climate with the particularity of the dryness and aridity of the area.

The preferred and authorized white varieties in this D.O. They are Alarije, Borba, Cayetana Blanca, Ciguente, Pardina, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Chelva o Montua, Eva Malvar, Moscatel A, Moscatel GM, Sauvignon, P. Ximenez and Verdejo.

The preferred and authorized red varieties in this D.O are Bobal, Cab. Sauvignon, Graciano, Garnacha, Garnacha Tinto, Jaen Tinto, Mazuela, Merlot, Monastrell, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Tempranillo.

The wines of this D.O. within their own subzones, not imposing a criterion of homogeneity but simply demanding that the natural elements that occur allow an adequate level of quality to be achieved in the products, including this sum of dispersed areas although connected to each other by viticultural links (varieties, form of cultivation...), oenological (processing methods, aging,...) or by reason of the name of the product on the market. It is a large area with good volume to do things well and there are already several wineries that manage to position their wines among the most awarded in Spain...

The minimum percentages of alcoholic volume acquired in their wines are the following: White 10%, Rosé 11%, Red Guarda 12.5%
