The Almansa Designation of Origin is located in the province of Albacete, it was established in 1964, it groups 12 wineries with about 800 winegrowers, it has an approximate area of ​​8,000 hectares vineyard, the average altitude of the vineyard is about 700-1000 meters of altitude, with a combined continental and Mediterranean climate, we can find soils with a high limestone content, permeable soils and poor in nutrient content.

The preferred and authorized white varieties in this D.O. They are Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Verdejo and Moscatel GM. The preferred and authorized red varieties in this D.O are Garnacha Tint., Monastrell, Cab. Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

The wines of this D.O. They are contrasted with those of the Levantine area due to the change in altitude that they suffer on the plateau of this area of ​​Almansa. In this area we can find higher altitudes of vineyards, which can guarantee fresher wines. It is a small and intimate area, little known in general, but which adapts very well to the terroir of the limestone area. There are well-known wineries and others that are more local, but this D.O. It is interesting or it could be an alternative to the others in the Levantine area.
