El Grifo George Glas Sweet Red Wine: George Glas, a Scottish merchant, lived in the Canary Islands during the 18th century and was one of the first to recognize the potential of Lanzarote wine. His account of the Canary Islands, published in London in 1764, recorded the birth of wine on the island, and today, his legacy lives on through this exceptional wine.
George Glas is a sweet red wine made with Listán Negro grapes, from pre-phylloxera vines with ages ranging between 60 and 80 years. These vines grow under a unique blanket of volcanic ash, which gives them unique characteristics and a distinctive character.
The production of this wine follows an ancient tradition. The grapes are subjected to a sunning process for 10 days, followed by intermittent treading with the feet for another 2 days. Fermentation is carried out with native and indigenous yeasts, and is stopped by adding wine alcohol when the wine reaches 110 grams per liter of natural sugars.
From that moment on, George Glas begins its oxidative aging in oak barrels, enriching its complexity and depth.
This wine is a tribute to the history and wine heritage of Lanzarote. Each sip is a journey through time, with aromas and flavors that evoke centuries of tradition.
