Mezcal Koch Mexicano is made from the wild Mexican maguey plant in Río de Ejutla. It is an extraordinary large agave that comes from jungles with very dry seasons and scrublands. The leaves of this plant form a huge rosette of green combined with gray and sharp teeth on the edges.
This mezcal is made by mezcalero Adrián Bautista, who has created many other Koch brand mezcals. The aroma of this mezcal is reminiscent of fermented fruits with sweet spices. It contains notes of fermented fruit, xoconostle (prickly pear), herbs, dense smoke and a very sweet and fresh finish.
The Carlos Moreno family has been associated with mezcal since the early 20th century. In 2009, Carlos continued the family tradition and partnered with fifth-generation mezcal maestro, Pedro Hernández, to create Koch El Mezcal de Oaxaca, with the goal of preserving and promoting mezcal culture. After 10 years of operation, to date they have incorporated more than 15 communities and 50 productive families into their congregation. Each batch is different, so check the bottle for more details.
