French oak “cigar barrels” are used in the whiskey aging process to impart natural sweetness and soften the rye characteristics and balance the whiskey.
A “cigar” style cask is also used which refers to a more elongated cask shape to increase the proportion of liquid surface area to the cask. This helps the Whisky get more flavor from the wood.
The intent of this Whiskey was to create something that would be a little different from all other Tennessee Whiskies. Bob Dylan, with the help of many master distillers, decided to use a blend of 70% corn mash and 30% “small grain” mash. This ratio plus the minimum of 8 years in American oak barrels provides a taste unlike any other Tennessee Whiskey.
Heaven's Door is a trilogy of Whiskey that features a Straight Bourbon, a Straight Rye and a Double Barica Whiskey that is a partnership between Bob Dylan and an entrepreneur by the name of Marc Bushala, the creator of Angel's Envy bourbon.
